David founded Strategic Media Services in 1996 after more than 15 years of experience in advertising sales, planning and media buying in New York, Boston and Washington. Originally a three-person shop, he and his team have built SMS into one of the largest media research, planning and buying firms in Washington, DC. with a client base that includes consumer, trade, issue advocacy, nationwide political campaigns and corporate advertising.
David brings a special expertise to clients because of his diverse background on both ends of the advertising spectrum – sales and buying. Clients have heard of David because of his national reputation for political and issue advocacy communications, but they also appreciate the expertise that he has built in strategically planned, sales-driven consumer marketing campaigns.
Prior to founding SMS, David was executive vice president at political ad firm National Media Inc. Working primarily on political and issue campaigns at both the national and local levels, he was responsible for all of the firm’s media research, planning and placement. Before that, David spent eight years in Boston and New York handling various sales and management positions with Blair Television, the largest national Rep Firm. David also serviced major national and local accounts at WJLA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Washington, DC.
David serves as an expert commentator on advertising issues for NBC News, and he has been consulted for stories by The Wall Street Journal and numerous trade journals. David graduated in 1981 from American University in Washington, DC with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
